Eerste helft 2014 voorspoedig verlopen

132 miljoen euro winst voor Volvo
Volvo Car Group noteert voor de eerste zes maanden van 2014 een winst van 132 miljoen euro (1.210 miljoen Zweedse kronen). De grote vraag in markten als China, Zweden en West-Europa droeg bij aan het positieve resultaat.

De verkoop groeide in de eerste helft van 2014 met 9,5 procent tot 229.013 nieuwe Volvo’s, tegenover 209.117 auto’s in dezelfde periode vorig jaar. ‘Het eerste halfjaar is positief verlopen’, vertelt Håkan Samuelsson, President en Chief Executive bij Volvo Car Group. ‘Dit resultaat is gunstig en bemoedigend.’
In dezelfde periode vorig jaar noteerde de Volvo Car Group een verlies van 63 miljoen euro. Volvo sloot 2013 uiteindelijk af met een winst van 208 miljoen euro. De winst laat zien dat Volvo in staat is een duurzame winstgevendheid te genereren en toont het succes van het hervormingsplan.
Volvo brengt de positieve resultaten naar buiten in de week voor de wereldwijde introductie van de nieuwe Volvo XC90. ‘We zijn trots dat de introductie van de nieuwe XC90 ook de herlancering van het merk Volvo inluidt’, vertelt Samuelsson.

Vandaag presenteert Volvo tijdens een persconferentie de complete financiële resultaten en een gedetailleerde vooruitblik op 2014. De persconferentie begint om 10.00 uur en vindt plaats in de Volvo Showroom in Kungsträdgården, Stockholm.
Volvo publiceert na de persconferentie de volledige resultaten op media.volvocars.com, onder de naam Interim Report January-June 2014.

Vanavond op het nieuws werd ook verteld dat men verwacht nog zo'n 500 nieuwe medewerkers aan te nemen in Torslanda!

Beste Ben en andere forumleden.

Voor Volvo is winst een belangrijke indicator voor het voorbestaan als autofabrikant.
Van belang is echter mijn inziens ook hoe deze winst is berekend en wat de verhouding is ten opzichte van het geïnvesteerde vermogen, met andere woorden wat is het netto rendement over de eerste 6 maanden.
Ook een vergelijking met winsten ( c.q. rendementen) van andere premium automerken is van belang in relatie met de gerealiseerde omzetten ( graadmeter economie) wereldwijd.
Dit bericht lijkt minder euforisch dan voorgaande berichten maar het is m.i. van belang een en ander genuanceerd te bezien.

Helemaal mee eens! Het rendement is vandaag nog veel te laag, 1,9. Op termijn moet dit gaan naar het niveau van de andere premium merken, rond 8%.

Huidig lage rendement is niet verwonderlijk na de scheiding van Ford. Opbouw van nieuw platform met nieuwe modellen en motoren vergt een diepe investering die zich op lange termijn moet gaan terugbetalen. Gelukkig heeft Volvo de mogelijkheid van oa. Geely om deze investering te doen!

Volvo Cars adds a third shift and 1,300 new jobs in the Torslanda plant

Volvo Cars will add a third working shift in its Torslanda, Gothenburg plant to meet the increasing customer demand for the company’s new cars. The expansion, planned for the first quarter of 2015, will be made in connection with the start of production for the all-new Volvo XC90 SUV.

Adding the third shift means the company will create approximately 1,300 new jobs and follows the opening of an entirely new body shop which lifted the production capacity in the Torslanda plant to 300,000 cars annually. This also means the total number of employees at Torslanda increases by close to 40 per cent.

The all-new Volvo XC90 SUV marks the first car from the new in-house developed Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), which will form the base for a range of upcoming new Volvo models. The new platform as well as the expansion of the Torslanda plant are part of Volvo’s ongoing USD 11 billion investment program in new products and production capacity.

Volvo Cars global retail deliveries were up by 9.2 per cent during the first nine months of the year while the outlook for the full year is a total sales volume of approximately 470,000 cars representing a 10 per cent growth and an all-time high sales result for the company. The all-new Volvo XC90 SUV is expected to further grow the company’s sales volumes during 2015, creating a need for increased output from the Torslanda plant where the new car is to be produced. Deliveries from the Torslanda plant are expected to reach another all-time high in 2015.

In addition to introducing a third shift, the Torslanda plant will also implement a revised working agreement to further support higher production volumes. The new agreement increases the flexibility in production to meet customer demand.

The new working agreement will also be introduced in the first quarter of 2015 and when fully implemented, the Torslanda plant will employ 4,600 people. The plant, which earlier this year celebrated 50 years of car making, currently produces the Volvo S60, S80, V60, V70, XC70 and XC90 models.

Ja heel mooi nieuws voor Volvo en laten ze ook maar weer mee zien dat niet alles naar China gaat.
Alhoewel ik die S60 Plug in wel uit China weer wil hebben.

Volvo Car Group announces October retail sales:
Volvo Cars’ global sales up 12.6 per cent, growth in China, Europe and US


• Global sales of 40,680 cars, up 12.6 per cent versus October last year
• Volvo Cars’ 16th consecutive month of growth
• Year-to-date sales of 379,880 cars, an increase of 9.5 per cent versus 2013

Volvo Cars posted a 16th consecutive month of retail sales growth in October, with China, Europe and the United States all recording a sales increase compared to October 2013.

China, Volvo Cars’ largest market, reported October sales of 6,917 cars, up 36 per cent versus October last year and the accumulated sales result for the first ten months of the year has already passed the full year result for 2013. The Volvo S60L sedan was the best-selling model followed closely by the XC60 crossover.

In Sweden, Volvo Cars sold 6,609 cars, up 30 per cent from the same month last year. The market share was 22.3 per cent with four Volvo models on the top 10 list of best-selling cars.

Volvo Cars continued its strong performance in Europe in October, where sales rose 12.1 per cent versus October last year. The UK market was the main growth driver where sales of the Volvo XC60 more than doubled versus last year. Germany and all Southern European markets also reported positive developments. The V40 remains the best-selling Volvo model in Europe, helped by its strong and class-leading line-up of Drive-E engines.

The United States was up by 1.4 per cent to 3,972 cars making it Volvo Cars’ third-largest individual market in October. The Volvo S60 and XC60 models were the best-selling models during the month.

“It’s very encouraging to see that all of our top five markets reported growth for the month which is a clear sign of a strong product offer,” says Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “I’m also looking forward to see the reactions on what we will reveal at the upcoming motor shows in Los Angeles and Guangzhou this month.”

Volvo Car Group announces November retail sales

Volvo Cars’ global sales up 2.6 per cent, growth in China and Europe

•Volvo Cars’ 17th consecutive month of growth
•Global sales of 38,941 cars, up 2.6 per cent versus November last year
•Year-to-date sales of 418,821 cars, an increase of 8.8 per cent versus 2013

Volvo Cars posted a 17th consecutive month of retail sales growth in November, with China and Europe recording a sales increase compared to November 2013. The best-selling Volvo model, the XC60 crossover, passed its full year 2013 sales figure of 114,000 cars already by mid-November this year and has thereby set a new all-time high record.

China, Volvo Cars’ largest market, reported November sales of 6,933 cars, up 15.6 per cent versus November last year while the growth rate for the first 11 months was 33.6 per cent. The Volvo XC60 crossover was the best-selling model followed closely by the S60L sedan.

In Sweden, Volvo Cars sold 5,718 cars, up 6.5 per cent from the same month last year. Its market share was more than 21per cent with the Volvo V60 and V70 models the best-selling models.

Volvo Cars also continued to grow in Europe during November. Sales rose 3.4 per cent versus the same month last year. The main growth drivers were the UK, Germany and France. The Volvo V40 hatchback remains the best-selling Volvo model in Europe, helped by its strong and class-leading line-up of Drive-E engines.

Sales in the United States were down by 14.4 per cent to 3,623 cars in November. The Volvo XC60 and S60 models were the best-selling models during the month.

“With no less than 17 months of consecutive growth we have demonstrated that Volvo Cars’ growth is both consistent and sustainable,” says Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Cars. “It was also encouraging to get all the positive feedback on the new Volvo V60 Cross Country which is a great addition to an already very attractive product offer”.

Volvo Cars announces new senior management structure

• Three new business regions created
• New senior management position for Klas Bendrik, Chief Information Officer
• Prepares company for next stage of its global transformation

Volvo Car Corporation (Volvo Cars) has today announced significant changes to the structure of its senior management as it continues to position the company for the next stage of its global transformation.

Volvo Cars has simplified its organisational structure by creating three new business regions – the Americas, Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and Asia – each led by a senior vice president (SVP) and member of the executive management team.

Volvo Cars has also created a new senior vice president position for the company’s Chief Information Officer, underlining the key role technology will play for car makers in future as they develop their connectivity products and services.

“Volvo is planning a significant volume increase in the medium term. We need a clear as well as a market focused management structure in order to secure this ambitious goal. That is what we have put in place today,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive.

As announced in January, the Americas region will now encompass North America, South America and Canada and be led by Lex Kerssemakers, the former SVP Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management. Mr Kerssemakers has already relocated to the US.

The Asia region will include China, Volvo Cars’ largest individual sales country, and embrace other fast growing Asian regional markets. It will be led by Lars Danielson, the current SVP Volvo Cars China Operations, reflecting Volvo Cars’ upcoming focus on expanding sales to the broader Asian region.

The EMEA region will be run by Anders Gustafsson, currently President of Volvo Cars Sweden.

All three regional SVP's will have total operational responsibility for their region.

Alain Visser, SVP Marketing, Sales and Service (MSS), has global strategic responsibility for sales, marketing and services. Working closely with finance, MSS will have responsibility for driving the overall commercial performance of the company. He is responsible for defining Volvo Cars’ global strategies and working with the three regions to ensure that the marketing activities are consistent, credible and persuasive.

Mr Samuelsson said the new management structure had been crafted to bring Volvo Cars much closer to its markets with no more than one management layer between any market Managing Director and an EMT member. This will allow Volvo to respond and react far more quickly to the needs of individual markets and regions, he said.

He added that with the four EMT members representing the commercial interests, this will significantly strengthen the commercial voice in the EMT and further increase the company’s focus on profitable growth.

Volvo boekt sterke financiële resultaten

Enorme vraag naar topversie Volvo XC90

De nieuwe Volvo XC90 overtreft alle verkoopverwachtingen. Sinds de verkoopstart zijn wereldwijd al nagenoeg 57.000 orders geschreven, waarmee de prognose van 50.000 stuks voor 2015 ruimschoots wordt overschreden. De Volvo-fabriek in het Zweedse Torslanda draait met drie ploegen op volle toeren om te kunnen voldoen aan de enorme vraag. Opvallend is dat driekwart van de kopers kiest voor de Inscription-uitvoering, de topversie in de reeks.

‘Gezien het feit dat 76 procent van onze klanten kiest voor de Inscription-uitvoering van de XC90, kunnen we stellen dat Volvo zich nadrukkelijk profileert als premiummerk’, zegt Alain Visser, Senior Vice President Marketing, Sales en Customer Service bij Volvo Cars.

De nieuwe XC90 markeert een nieuw tijdperk in de geschiedenis van Volvo. Het is het eerste model dat is ontworpen volgens de toekomstige designtaal, maakt gebruik van het nieuw ontwikkelde Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform en een reeks nieuwe technieken introduceert.

Omzetstijging
De verkoopstatistieken van de Volvo XC90 werden onthuld tijdens de bekendmaking van de financiële resultaten van het eerste halfjaar van 2015. Volvo boekte een operationele winst van SEK 1.660 miljoen in de eerste zes maanden van dit jaar, vergeleken met SEK 968 miljoen in dezelfde periode in 2014. De omzet steeg van SEK 66.982 miljoen tot SEK 75.215 miljoen.

In het eerste halfjaar van 2015 werden 232.284 auto’s verkocht, waarmee een lichte stijging werd gerealiseerd ten opzichte van dezelfde periode vorig jaar, toen er 229.013 orders werden geschreven. De verkoopstijging is vooral te danken aan de toenemende vraag vanuit Europa. De verkoop in China bleef op gelijk niveau, terwijl de omzet in de Verenigde Staten stabiliseerde.

‘We blikken terug op een goed halfjaar met verbeterde financiële resultaten’, zegt Håkan Samuelsson, President en Chief Executive bij Volvo Cars. ‘We zijn in 2010 gestart met hervormen en de financiële resultaten bewijzen dat we op de juiste weg zijn.’

Als onderdeel van de langetermijnstrategie worden investeringen gedaan om Volvo’s positie als wereldwijde premium autofabrikant te versterken. Met een volledig nieuw productgamma streeft Volvo op de middellange termijn naar een verdubbeling van de jaaromzet van circa 800.000 auto’s per jaar.

In de eerste zes maanden van 2015 heeft Volvo Cars belangrijke stappen gezet om de doelstelling te bereiken. Tevens maakte Volvo bekend dat een nieuwe productiefaciliteit in South Carolina zal worden gerealiseerd. Met de bouw van de fabriek in Charleston, die dit najaar start, is 500 miljoen dollar gemoeid. De productie start in 2018 en er zullen in eerste instantie 100.000 auto’s per jaar van de band rollen.

Volvo Cars appoints new head of marketing, sales and service

Volvo Cars, the premium car maker, has appointed Björn Annwall as its new Senior Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Service.

He will replace Alain Visser, who has accepted a new position as vice president of global marketing and sales Geely Auto Group, the Chinese car company. Both Volvo Cars and Geely Auto are owned by Zhejiang Geely Holdings (ZGH).

The changes will take effect on the 15th October 2015.

Mr Annwall joins Volvo from his previous position as a partner at McKinsey & Co, the management consultancy, where he has worked closely with Volvo for the last five years implementing a global transformation programme following its acquisition by ZGH in 2010.

“Volvo is at a very exciting juncture in its history. I am looking forward to helping the company further establish its position as a truly global premium car maker,” said Mr Annwall.

Mr Visser said: “To take on the challenge of building a global Chinese car brand represents the pinnacle of my career. It also feels special to stay within the Geely family after three years at Volvo.”

Volvo has an established reputation for being an intelligent, creative and bold car company, and enjoys a brand identity that means it can avoid blending in with the larger car industry cluster.

This means it has always taken a fresh and innovative approach to its marketing, something that will continue and develop under Mr Annwall.

Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars, said: “I am delighted to welcome Björn to Volvo and look forward to working with him as Volvo moves into the second phase of its development plan, which will move it towards its medium term ambition to increase annual sales to around 800,000 cars. I would also like to thank Alain for everything he has done to ensure Volvo’s ongoing transformation has been a success.”

Sales of Volvo Cars have hit a series of all- time highs in recent years and peaked last year at 465,866, up 8.9 per cent compared to 2013. The company has forecast that sales this year will be up to 500,000, another record high.

Mr Annwall will help Volvo implement the most comprehensive product revival programme in the company’s 88 year history.

It recently launched the new XC90 SUV, attracting over 65,000 pre-orders, far higher than the 50,000 it was expecting to sell this year.

It is also planning to completely renew its product range in the next four years. This will include new larger cars on its SPA modular architecture as well as a range of premium smaller cars based on its CMA architecture.

Om ruimte te maken voor productie van de XC90 is Volvo Torslanda gestopt met het produceren van de S60 en de S60 Cross Country. De S60 Polestar blijft wel gebouwd worden in Göteborg.

Volvo's 2019 masterplan:

“It will all be done by February 2019,” Volvo chief executive Hakan Samuelsson tells Top Gear. He’s talking about the company’s amazing plan to replace its entire lineup within four years.

That means three new 90 models - the XC90 SUV that’s just been launched, and next year both a related S90 big saloon and V90 wagon. Those two will replace the current S80 and V70. Volvo once dominated big European estates, so we want to see a properly modern one.

Then in 2017 there’s to be the new XC60. The current XC60 is Volvo’s fastest seller, and it tops the sales chart for its class in Europe. A year later are the next-gen V60 and S60. These three will use the same platform as the 90-series, but cut down in wheelbase, width and overhangs. The result is the size of the Audi A4 and Q5.

In 2018 comes an extra model, a smaller Audi Q3-sized crossover called the XC40. This has the same engine family as the bigger cars, but an all-new platform. It’s followed by a brand-new V40 and S40. The launch deadline for the V40, from Samuelsson’s quote, must be February 2019 (the V40 saloon could technically be a bit later because it’s not a direct replacement of anything on sale now).

Back to the big cars. The XC90 gives us loads of info about the V90 and S90, and the 60-series too. They will all have Volvo’s own 2.0-litre four-cylinder engines, diesels and petrols. The diesel goes to 225bhp. The top petrol does 320bhp by supercharging and turbocharging. “If you absolutely need a V8 then maybe you’re not a Volvo customer,” says Samuelsson gently. “If you just want a V8’s power and response, then our four-cylinder is OK.”

There will be FWD and four-wheel drive. The mainstream 4WD system is conventional, but an option is the clever plug-in hybrid system with electric rear drive, as seen on the 400bhp T8 version of the XC90. The suspension uses a lot of aluminium, with a Corvette-style composite transverse spring at the back, and there’s an air-sprung option too.

But for the 60-series cars there will be some extra transmissions apart from the XC90’s eight-speed auto. One is a manual, the other a double-clutch. The double-clutch will optionally be mated with an electric motor to produce a front-drive hybrid. Volvo’s chief engineer Peter Mertens tells me this will be barely more expensive than a diesel engine.

Gave plannen!
En er komt ook weer een nieuwe S40! Eindelijk. Ik vind de V40 een mooie auto, maar geen echte vervanger voor de S40... Totaal andere uitstraling.

Ik ga mij de komende jaren verheugen op de nieuwe modellen. Laat ze maar snel komen!

he, XC40 schuift steeds verder naar achter.. Eerst 2017 en nu zelfs pas 2018.. :'(
