Gewoon even bellen naar Volvo headquarters in Brussel ?

I'll be ringing soon the Volvo dealers in Brussels since I live there but I just would like to know if outside Brussels, there's such a thing as a T6 test veichule. I'm prepared to go outside Brussels to test it. What I'm not prepared to do, is to buy one WITHOUT testing it...

Vanwege het kilometrage ben ik naar diesel overgestapt. Top motor heb je besteld. Cranberry vond ik wat gewaagd dus vandaar dat ik zwart leder heb genomen.

This Wednesday, I'll be testing the S80 3.2 Geartronic since this model is only in Belgium for a week before going back to Sweden. Since most of the elements are the same between the S80 and the V70, I'll have a good impression of what's like a 3.2 V70...

As promised, here my drive impressions of the 3.2 engine:

So, the car was a 3.2 AWD S80 with Swedish plates and 17’ wheels. I think that every option was included since this car is supposed to be a showcase of all the S80 options for potential clients. Even RSE was included…and PCC too.

So, I enter the car and first thing: is the engine running ? Yes ! Shift into Drive and here we go. What a difference between this engine and the 2.4d that I tested before. Smooth and linear, without, of course, the huge torque of the 2.4d, but that was to be expected.

With the BLIS blinking, I get out of the town traffic into the highway. Car is a pleasure to drive, something I also noticed with the new V70. Precise direction, less roll… While accelerating, I noticed that the AT is very eager to drop down some gears in order to accelerate. This is something new to me since on my 2005 V70 195HP AT, this behavior only happens if I go deep with the accelerating pedal. Here, perhaps because it had only 3.000KM or less torque, the “kickdown” happens quite soon with a lot of engine noise in the cockpit. A good note is that the AT shifts quicker than my present one. Finally, after reaching the 130KM, I turn on the ACC and start playing with the safety distances. Shortening this distance to the minimum, I found that it’s nice option but could prove to be dangerous since, according to the manual, ACC uses only 30% of the brakes in order to function. So, if someone pulls over in front of you while you’re going fast, I guess you have to help the system to brake. Since it has no override (ACC into “normal” cruise control), I won’t be taking the option.

The brakes bite a lot better, so much that I almost went into a wall when I entered my V70 because of apparently lack of response of the brakes !

About the engine, nice in town but I miss the torque (400NM) of my present engine. I probably could live with that but I’m afraid to have some regrets of not taking the T6, especially since I plan to keep the car for a long time (+3 years) and, in my case, the price difference between the two, is not that big for the same equipment.

About the other options, RTI was ok but I prefer a standalone option, cheaper and more flexible. Also, the audio was the top one but I’m not an audiophile (have the Dolby Prologic system now and I guess that I only use 20% of its potential, when I’m in the mood of listening to same music…). Also, the front PDC demands, in order to not be bothered on town traffic, to disable the whole PDC manually. I would expect that the PDC reengages itself once one engages the reverse gear but this doesn’t happen. You have to enable it manually when parking.

PCC is wonderful! Tested entering and exiting and what a comfort. No key to bother with, the doors open when you pull the handle immediately. Definitely a must have option in my book.

So, final conclusion: this engine is the perfect companion for a car of the stature of the V70/S80. It’s refined and pulls ok. My advice is, skip the Diesel one if you can live with the fuel consumption and if you plan to keep the car for a long time (low residuals in Europe).

Since it will be nearly impossible to test a T6, my question to the forum members that tested the 3.2 and the T6 variants: in terms of noise, is the T6 much more present than the 3.2 ? Does this extra noise happens under full acceleration or all the time ?

Ik kom hier nog even op terug. Als dagelijkse bezoeker van de website van Auto, Motor und Sport was ik natuurlijk in blijde verwachting om de vergelijkende test en de foto's daar te zien. Maar die komen er dus niet door, zeer vreemd. Ook als je gaat zoeken bij de tests, zowel op Volvo als op Audi (het was, weet ik nu, een A6 Avant 3.2 FSI tegen een V70 T6), krijg je niets. En toch heb ik die test in de Duitstalige gedrukte editie zien staan !

Zouden die moffen uit Ingolstadt daar nu voor iets tussen zitten ? Iemand met een abonnement op AMS die me even het juiste nummer kan geven ?

Overigens : in "De Autogids" die eergisteren is verschenen staat een gammatest van de nieuwe V70 (2.4D, D5 en T6). Straks naar de winkel...

Fortuna's zijn mooi ! (Van de auto zelf wisten we dat natuurlijk al).

Overigens is je kleurcombinatie niet alledaags : alu met cranberry. Ik denk dat de meesten het modern wood kiezen, zeker in combinatie met cranberry. Maar het is niet verkeerd hoor !

Puur optisch zou de auto een klein beetje lager leggen ook heel mooi zijn, maar ja, weg comfort en met al onze verkeersdrempels, kasseiwegen en gewoon slecht onderhouden wegen is dat in België geen verstandige keuze.

Met een volle tank en enkele duizenden kilomters op de teller komt hij vanzelf al iets lager.

Heb de nieuwe V70 en XC70 gisteren gezien bij de dealer. Mooie wagens hoor. De beruchte achterlichten vielen mij in het echt aardig mee. Wat mij daar vooral aan opviel was dat ze iets uitsteken naar achteren toe, grappig detail. Aan de binnenzijde is het vooral een S80 interieur en dat is niet verkeerd.

Ik rijd nu een week in mijn nieuwe V70 en het rijdt echt grandioos! En ja, ook veel bekijks maar het is nu ook nog een model wat weinig op de weg aanwezig is!
