De 1.6 diesel zit in een Mazda, Peugeot, Citroen, Mini, Volvo en Ford.

ja, maar moeten ergens gebouwd worden en Volvo bouwt ze in Skövde

bij een co-productie is het altijd moeilijk een hoofdschuldige aan te wijzen

"We just love conflicting reports. In this case, those reports are the one we reported last week that talks between Ford and Geely were falling apart amid intellectual property concerns and the one we're reporting now, that Ford and Geely will be signing a final agreement in just a few weeks, on February 8, 2010. If this rumor is to be believed, this long ordeal of the sale will finally be over soon.

The new rumor comes from TradingMarkets.com and claims that February 8th is when Geely will sit down and sign a sales contract with Ford. It is based on "market heresay," so take that as you will. It could be completely made up, but then again, today's GM/Spyker deal for Saab was predicted partially based on things happening in the stock market through the past few days. The rumor says the deal could be for as high as $1.8 billion or as low as $1.6 billion, but either is a huge loss for Ford, which paid $6.4 billion eleven years ago.

If the deal does indeed go through, Geely is said to be ready and waiting to build a new Volvo plant in China, probably to build XC60s and perhaps the upcoming S60. But here's an opportunity for us to stifle a bit of concern - those cars built there, if they are, won't come to the US or to Europe. Ford currently co-operates a plant in China that produces S40s and S80s, but they're all sold in the Chinese market. Every source we've talked to inside Volvo has been adamant that every Volvo sold in North America and Europe will continue to be built at locations in Sweden and Belgium, just as they are now. Any new factories in China will be for Chinese market vehicles. Just as Ford left Volvo's operations and production in Europe, expect Geely to be smart enough to do the same. Go ahead and mark your calendars for Feb. 8. If you don't hear anything then, it might be time to start believing that the talks really are falling apart."

Chineze willen imago van Volvo niet schaden. We willen het imago houden van een luxe Europees merk, dat eigendom is van een Chinees bedrijf.

Ben benieuwd of die rel tussen de VS en China ivm wapenleveranties aan Taiwan nog de verkoop aan Geely gaat dwarsbomen.

Tja, als ik dit artikel lees en een beetje logisch nadenk dan zal er van een verkoop niet veel in huis komen. Althans daar lijkt het toch op.

Tja als Volvo weer behoorlijk winst maakt lijkt het me niet slim om dan zoveel verlies te nemen met verkoop.

Ik vraag me zelfs af of ik niet liever wil dat Volvo naar de Chinezen gaat, dan bij Ford blijft...
Daar wordt het toch weer proberen maximaal "aandeelhouderswaarde" te creeeren; m.a.w. hoe maak ik in zo kort mogelijke tijd maximaal winst i.p.v. lange termijn investeringen in het merk....Amerikanen hebben in de autoindustrie de afgelopen 30 jaar nou niet echt veel tot stand gebracht....
En zo lang ze malloten in dienst hebben die zich vooral druk maken om de nummering van de diverse types, alsof er geen andere prioriteiten zijn op dit moment, heb ik er al helemaal geen vertrouwen in....
