Maar zonder gekheid... zeer triest dat een mooi merk zoals Saab dreigt te verdwijnen.

Techniek 'weggegeven', leeggezogen, imago verkwanseld, 'Zweden' wil niet meer, zeg maar dag met je handje ! Who's next?

Saab heeft het gerechtelijk akkoord aangevraagd. Dit kan voor hen een mogelijkheid zijn om de schuldeisers wat af te houden en eventueel zelf autonoom verder te gaan...

Saab bekommt keine Hilfe vom Staat, Volvo dagegen schon. Die schwedische Regierung sichert Volvo mit einer Staatsbürgschaft in Höhe von fünf Milliarden Kronen ab, damit das Unternehmen einen Kredit kriegt.


Die schwedische Regierung will Volvo mit einer Staatsbürgschaft in Höhe von fünf Milliarden Kronen (445 Millionen Euro) absichern. Damit solle dem zum US-Konzern Ford gehörenden Unternehmen zu einem Kredit der Europäischen Investitionsbank (EIB) verholfen werden, sagte der Staatssekretär im
Wirtschaftsministerium, Jöran Hägglund, der Zeitung "Dagens Industri". Ähnliche Bitten des insolventen Volvo-Konkurrenten Saab hatte die Regierung abgelehnt und erklärt, dass dessen US-Mutterkonzern General Motors (GM) nur Kosten abwälzen wolle. "Im Gegensatz zu GM hat Ford bei Volvo seine Verantwortung als Eigner auch langfristig wahrgenommen", begründete Hägglund den Schritt.

Ford will seine schwedische Tochter nach den Marken Jaguar und Land Rover ebenfalls verkaufen. Für den von Volvo bei der EIB beantragten Kredit will die Stockholmer Regierung zu 90 Prozent bürgen.

Zweedse regering helpt Volvo Cars met garantie

De Zweedse regering gaat autobouwer Volvo Cars een staatswaarborg van 5 miljard Zweedse kronen (445 miljoen euro) verlenen. Daarmee zal het bedrijf, eigendom van het Amerikaanse concern Ford, in aanmerking kunnen komen voor een aangevraagd krediet van de Europese Investeringsbank (EIB). Dat verklaart staatssecretaris voor Economie, Jöran Hägglund, in de krant Dagens Industri.

Aanvraag Saab afgewezen
Een gelijkaardige aanvraag van Saab is door de regering afgewezen. Saab, een dochterbedrijf van General Motors, vroeg onlangs uitstel van betaling aan. Volgens Hägglund wil GM "enkel kosten afwentelen. In tegenstelling tot GM heeft Ford bij Volvo zijn verantwoordelijkheden als eigenaar ook op lange termijn opgenomen", aldus Hägglund nog. Ook Ford wil zijn Zweedse dochter verkopen.

Steunplan auto-industrie
De regering in Stockholm zal zich voor 90 procent garant stellen voor het door Volvo Cars aangevraagde krediet bij de EIB. De garantie maakt deel uit van een Zweeds steunplan voor de auto-industrie van zowat 2,7 miljard euro. (dpa/eb)

If, like us, you've been following the Volvo saga pretty closely, you'll remember that several Chinese companies are considered to be among the top bidders for the Swedish automaker when Ford officially opens the bidding. Although Geely has said they aren't interested, that didn't rule out other Chinese outfits.

Well, today we have word via Chinese news reports that Chery, for one, has been given the greenlight to enter the Volvo lottery by the Chinese government. Other interested parties are rumored to be Dongfeng Motor Group and Chongqing Changan Automobile Co, along with a "European constellation," whatever that means.

De nieuwste berichten in de Financial Times duiden er op dat een groep kapitaalkrachtige Zweden in Volvo wil investeren. Een van de redenen zou zijn om te voorkomen dat de kennis naar China verdwijnt.

Aan de andere kant zouden er nog steeds 3 mogelijke Chinese investeerders in de race zijn.

In de Zweedse pers duiken steeds meer verhalen op over de belangstelling die AB Volvo heeft voor Volvo PV.
Niet om alleen eigenaar te worden maar wel om samen met anderen Volvo op de been te houden.

Klinkt ook niet gek.

Volvo truck unit denies plans for carmaker
Volvo AB , the Swedish maker of heavy trucks, said it doesn't plan to become a part-owner of the namesake carmaker, denying a Swedish newswire report saying the two companies are considering closer ties. The truckmaker and the car manufacturer went separate ways in 1999, when Ford Motor Co. bought Volvo Cars as part of its strategy to build a European luxury division. Ford has since said it wants to sell Volvo Cars.

Buyers eyeing Volvo Cars: Ford

US car maker Ford revealed on Wednesday it is in detailed talks with potential buyers for its Volvo Cars subsidiary.

"Ford has held preliminary discussions with several parties interesting in buying Volvo Cars," spokesman John Gardiner said in a written statement.

The US company "has been pleased with the number and quality of these parties, and preliminary discussions have been held to ascertain their level of interest in the Volvo business," he added.

"Ford is now talking in more detail to these interested parties about the future for Volvo," he said.

Gardiner said that, while the talks could lead to a sale of the beleaguered Swedish company, "no final decisions have been made at this stage and this process will still take some time to unfold."

Contacted by AFP, he refused to disclose the names or nationalities of the potential buyers, and said no timeframe had been laid out.

"We haven't quantified the timing but the process will take time," he said.

On March 10, the Financial Times reported that China's second-biggest carmaker Geely was interested in buying Volvo Cars, citing sources close to the dossier.

Ford, which unlike the two other big US automakers General Motors and Chrysler has not received federal aid, announced in December that it was considering selling Volvo Cars.

It acquired the Swedish brand in 1999 for 6.45 billion dollars.

Volvo Cars holds 1.3 percent of the European market and 0.5 percent of the US market, according to Ford.

Volvo Cars employs some 20,000 people worldwide, including 15,000 in Sweden.

Rumoured Volvo deal halts trading for Chinese automaker

Rumours of a potential deal for troubled Swedish automaker Volvo forced China's largest independent carmaker Geely Automobile to suspend trading of its shares on Friday.

The move came following reports that Geely was one of three companies interested in buying Volvo from US auto giant Ford.

Geely Automobile Holdings Limited said its shares were suspended Friday morning in a one line statement to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange that provided no further details.

The suspension comes a day after The Wall Street Journal reported Geely had "preliminary discussions" with Ford about buying its money-losing Swedish unit Volvo, citing "two individuals close to Geely and a person close to Ford".

Geely spokesman Zhang Xiaodong told AFP on Thursday his company had not expressed interest in Volvo and that Geely was the subject of a persistent rumour.

Chinese suitors plan visit to Volvo Cars: report

Chinese auto company representatives interested in buying Volvo Cars from Ford will be heading to Sweden next week to visit the troubled Swedish carmaker’s European headquarters.

According to Swedish business daily Dagens Industri, which did not cite any sources, officials from either Changan, Dongfeng or Geely will visit Volvo's headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden and its plant in Ghent, Belgium.

The newspaper said a Chinese buyer could be willing to pay between 15 and 20 billion kronor ($1.75-2.3 billion) for Volvo.

These offers are less than the amount paid by Ford 10 years ago. In 1999, the now struggling US auto giant company spent $6.45 billion to buy Volvo Cars.

Ford said last December it was considering a sale of its Swedish brand. At the end of March, the US automaker said it was holding detailed discussions with a number of unnamed interested parties.
