Slovenia: Iskra makes hybrid engine for Volvo, plans job cuts

In cooperation with the multinational automotive company Magna, the Slovenian-based producer of car electronics Iskra Avtolektrika has created a new hybrid engine for the Swedish-owned Volvo. Despite this, Iskra is planning to carry out a headcount reduction at its plant due to a 40% drop in the volume of orders since the beginning of 2009. In the first quarter alone, Iskra posted a EUR 1.72mn (USD 2.43mn) loss. The company has some 1,500 employees.
