We hebben al een C30 DRIVe en we zagen ooit een hybride C30 in de vorm van de Volvo ReCharge Concept (C30 plug-in conceptcar dinges). Het lijkt dus logisch dat we volgende maand een volledig elektrische C30 in Frankfurt zullen zien. En jawel…
Volgens het Britse Autocar heeft Volvo bevestigd dat er in Frankfurt een elektrische C30 hatchback zal staan. Een insider liet weten: “The all-electric C30 is a car we have talked about previously and formed the basis of the Recharge concept shown a few years ago. One of the cars that will be shown at the Innovation for Life event will be an all-electric C30 and that car will be driven.“

Men laat echter weten dat er (nog) geen plannen zijn om de auto in productie te nemen. Daarnaast kan men de auto niet eens produceren, net zoals alle andere Europese fabrikanten. Dat voorrecht is behouden aan Nissan. Volvo heeft wel bevestigd dat er een plug-in/hybride versie van de V70 komt, waarbij een combinatie van een dieselmotor (voorwielen) en elektrische motor (achterwielen) gebruikt wordt. Maar dat zal nog minimaal tot 2012 duren…

Het zal wel heel hard gaan als dit werkelijkheid wordt:

Electric Volvo C30 Ready to Roll

The Swedish carmaker announced today it has signed an agreement with energy company Göteborg Energi that will have Volvo delivering ten Volvo C30 Electric vehicles this fall. This demo fleet of electric C30 cars will be fitted with advanced measuring instruments.

The Volvo C30 Electric has the same safety, comfort and interior features as the standard Volvo C30. The difference is that the C30 Electric runs on electricity only.

"Ten cars will be delivered starting this autumn. The Volvo C30 Electric is a natural part of our focus on DRIVe products, with the aim of promoting a sustainable society. We are happy with the cooperation with Göteborg Energi. What is more, it's happening in Volvo's home town of Göteborg," Lennart Stegland, director of the Volvo Car Corporation's Special Vehicles division, said in a release.

According to Volvo, the range is up to 150 km on a single battery charge. "That's way further than 90 percent of commuters in Europe cover on a daily basis. The car could be used for the average family's everyday commuting needs," Stegland added.

The Volvo C30 Electric is powered by a lithium-ion battery that can be charged from a regular mains power socket and it takes about eight hours to recharge from zero. The car offers a driving range of 150 km (93 miles). It will accelerate from o to 60 mph in under 11 seconds and will reach a top speed of 130 km/h (81 mph).

"We work to promote a sustainable society in Göteborg so to participate in the development of new infrastructure for safe electric cars and cooperate with Volvo Cars at such an early stage feels absolutely right," concluded Anders Hedenstedt, President of Göteborg Energi.

Wat ik mij dan weer af vraag is waarom het alleen aan Nissan is voorbehouden een volledig eletrische auto te maken, moet toch gewoon in serieproductie kunnen....

Mijn broer rijdt een volledig elektrische Citroen Saxo, kan je ongeveer 100 km mee rijden als hij helemaal opgeladen is. Is er een uit 1998 als ik het goed heb, dus zo innoverend vind ik deze C30 nu ook weer niet
