Nice to meet you, it's my first post in this forum.
I'm writing in English but can read Dutch, so Dutch comments are also very very welcome.

Recently, I bought a second hand V60 Plugin Hybrid (2014 model).
While I drove it for a short trip last week, I suddenly confront airco problem. The dashboard warned 'airco service required'

A Volvo official Dealer in Den Haag Area had quick check up.
They informed me it's compressor problem and total cost of replacement shall be around EUR2000.- including vat (1,200 for the part / ±800 for labour)

Here are the questions.

1. Is it reasonable to pay EUR2.000,- for replacement of Airco compressor through official garage??

2. My V60 is covered with 'standrad garantie' from third party garantie company. This garantie basically covers the "driving" parts only. Normally it won't cover the airco problem.
However, Airco compressor of V60 Hybrid also support the cooling of Hybrid Accu, which means I can't drive Hybrid when the weather/parts are too hot.
This week was very very hot as you all know and I couldn't drive Hybrid mode. The car blocks the electrical ride automatically even though battery is full. Dashbord shows warning "Hybrid Not available due to temporary hybrid system limitations".
Therefore, Volvo dealer tells me that I can request compensation from the garantie company. Does anyone have experience / knowledge about it?

3. Do you recommend to replace the compressor through "non-volvo" garage or DIY? Does anyone know good / reasonable garage in Den Haag Area?

Even een korte reactie op je treurige verhaal:

1. Nee het is niet normaal om 2000 euro te moeten betalen voor een onderdeel dat regelmatig defect raakt en vervangen moet worden. Maar het bedrag komt wel overeen met de bedragen die anderen (mijn verzekering helaas ook) hebben moeten betalen om de airco te laten vervangen.

2. Er zijn diverse forumleden die met succes de aircopomp onder garantie van een 3e partij hebben geclaimd of door zich te melden bij de Volvo dealer waar het (laatste) onderhoud is uitgevoerd en te vragen om coulance, geen kosten hebben gehad. Omdat Volvo onderkent dat er productieproblemen met de aircopomp en heeft aangeven de pomp kosteloos te blijven vervangen totdat alles in orde is , zou ik je aanraden in het onderhoudsboekje te kijken en contact te zoeken met die Volvo dealer... Dus niet zomaar 2000 gaan betalen.

Veel succes en laat horen hoe het is gegaan.

1) I bought V60 D5 Hybrid. It broke (Airco pump) and it was replaced under Bovag Garantie, but you MUST inform and contact the garage where you bought the car.
They need to fix it or sent you to a Volvo dealer they know.
2) First the pump was replaced using Bovag garantie. It broke Again in a few weeks. This time the pump was replaced by Volvo warranty.
Monday I received my 3rd pump in 3 months time. The Volvo garage told me that Volvo explained it's a issue with this pump series and they have no fix and keep replacing it under warranty until a new pump, fix is available..

First go to garage where you bought it. And bring a person that speaks dutch..

3 pompen in 3 maanden is wel erg veel.
Gelukkig zit je nu ook in het airco pomp garantie plan van Volvo.

Thanks to your advises, I have managed to fix the problem without any cost!!
First I contacted the 3rd party guarantee company, they made very long explanation why they can't pay.

Then I contacted a Volvo garage and told them that what I heard from this forum. They immediately admit that it's quite common production problem of v60 PIHV. They promised to fix it for free.
It's good news but they should have told me in the first place when I visited the garage and found the problem.

Anyway, appreciate for your kind comments!
If anyone experiences same problem in the future.. never waste 2k euro!!

Mooi dat het kosteloos is opgelost!

Is dit alleen bij de hybrid versies een probleem? Ik heb eerder een S70 gehad, ging de airco na 50k kapot, gelukkig garantie.
Nu een V60 T4, hoop dat dit geen issue is.

Ja alleen de hybrids.

Dit zijn electrische airco's van Sanden die dus niet (zoals de reguliere modellen) aangedreven worden door een riem. Hierdoor hebben enkel de hybride Volvo's last van deze problemen.

volgens mij de T8 niet hoor (wat de problemen met de V60 eigenlijk alleen maar opvallender maakt)

According to the dealer, All V60 PHV owners have right to request the replacement of Aircopump for free, whether or not you already have problem with Airco/hybrid system.

Do you really mean that Volvo is offering to replace all V60 PIH compressors to the latest version free of charge even if there is no current mailfunction?
If so, I would have expected some kind of recall notification from Volvo, but I haven't received any.

Dat komt natuurlijk omdat je geen ‘mailfunction’ hebt (sorry, grapje)

Lijkt me toch dat, indien dat echt het geval zou zijn, inderdaad op zn minst de dealers hierover geïnformeerd zouden zijn. Wel een kostbare aangelegenheid (maar ja, service voor alles...)

Ha, ik lees de typo nu ook . Ik denk dat alle pompen tot nu toe gewoon een gereviseerde versie zijn, dat scheelt in de kosten, maar desondanks is het tot nu toe voor Volvo en Sanden al een duur grapje geweest. Ben binnenkort met de V70 bij de dealer, zal het eens navragen hoewel de mijne het nu al 11 maanden volhoud zonder klachten.

Ivm regulier onderhoud heb ik vrijdag een afspraak, de offerte geeft aan vervangen van airco onder garantie.
Zonder naar te vragen of benoemen.

Erg positief verrast, fijn proactief.
