Verschil in onderhoud EU en US Specs

Ik woon en werk tijdelijk in het buitenland en ben sinds een half jaar in het bezit van een (EU Spec) XC90 2.5T (2007 model). Mijn onderhoudsboekje geeft aan dat ik een eerste servicebeurt moet hebben na 20.000 km of na een jaar of bij een waarschuwing. Ik heb gemerkt dat dezelfde wagen met dezelfde motor in de US al na 12.000 km olie moet verversen. Er valt natuurlijk van alles over de soort- en functie van olie te zeggen, dat is dzz wel bekend. Ik vroeg me alleen af waarom dat verschil tussen een US en EU Volvo zo groot is.
Wellicht een open deur. Ik heb op de zoekmachine van dit forum naar onderhoud en EU vs US specs gezocht en kreeg meer dan 1800 berichten, waarvan de eerste 50 zonder relevantie

Dear Mr van Huet,

You are correct, there is a difference between service intervals in
USA/Canada (7.500 miles) and e.g. in Europe (20.000 or 30.000 km,
depending on the model and market). It is the National Sales Company in
the US that recommends these more frequent service intervals, in
accordance with what is customary on the local market (this also implies
that the contents of a 7,500 miles service is somewhat more "basic",
also the engine oil used on these occasions in North America is not
exactly the same as in Europe).

A US-spec car, while in Europe, can follow either the US, or the EU
service intervals (provided the intervals are followed consequently).
Most of the US owners follow the US intervals, also due to the fact that
(for model year 06 and 07), US-spec Volvo cars have the first scheduled
service at 7,500 miles free of charge, not only in the US but also on
selected European markets. And, of course, their service & warranty
booklet follows the local US recommendations. While the engines, as you
say, are pretty much the same.
