Volvo announces range of 09 updates
Thursday, 15 May 2008 14:54
The new Volvo range features a host of updates Volvo has announced the launch of nine new 09 models, with the first customer cars expected in July.
Exterior design changes start with the Volvo emblem on the tailgate being made larger and spread wider on the S40, V50, C70 and C30 models. The same changes will be made on the V70, XC70 and XC60 in the autumn.
Power mirrors with an autofolding function will now be standard across the entire range. These mirrors can be set to fold in automatically when the car is locked, folding out again when this situation changes.
The communications packs has been revised to include the RTI navigation system, keyless drive and Bluetooth handsfree system.
For an extra £200 the Bluetooth handsfree system can be selected as an individual option on the C30, S40, V50 and C70. Users who opt for this will benefit from automatic recognition of compatible mobile phones as they enter the car, allowing the driver to switch freely from the mobile to the handsfree system.
A new Homelink option is also available across the range for a recommended price of £50. Buttons are integrated into the sun visor, allowing a car's occupants to operate remote-controlled home appliances, such as a garage door, home alarm and exterior lighting, without leaving the car.
There are new colour additions across a number of models, with Savile Grey being added to the S80, C30, V50 and S40, while Caper Green Pearl will feature on the S80 and XC70 and Vanilla Pearl on the C70.
In the S40 saloon and V50 Sportswagon, the RTI navigation system has been updated with a new driver interface, new colours and a refresh to the menus and symbols. It is now offered at a reduced recommended retail price of £1,500. The Family Pack now includes the passenger airbag cut off switch, and is priced at £260.
The 2.4i petrol engine will no longer be available, although prices across both saloon and Sportswagon ranges generally remain stable. Minor amends to the R-Design Sport increases the price by up to £200, whilst the R-Design SE Sport actually decreases by up to £190.
The S40 range starts at £13,995 for the S40 1.6S and the V50 start price remains unchanged at £15,995 for the 1.6S. Standard equipment on these entry level models includes ECC (electronic climate control) with AQS (air quality system) and pollen filter, DSTC (dynamic stability and traction control), power windows, leather steering wheel, 6-speaker radio/CD system and an auxiliary input for MP3 player.
The hard load cover on the C30 is now standard on all trim levels and the soft load cover is available as a no cost option. As with the S40 and V50, the C30 RTI navigation system has also been given a new look, with a recommended retail price of £1,500. 18-inch Midir alloy wheels are now available as a no cost option on the R-Design SE Sport and as a cost option of £500 on the R-Design Sport.
The 2.4i petrol engine is no longer available and prices remain unchanged across the range, starting at £14,995 for the Volvo C30 1.6 R-Design Sport, complete with sporty R-Design exterior and interior styling, as well as IDIS (intelligent driver information system), cruise control, MP3 player compatibility and steering wheel remote audio controls as standard equipment.
The C70 Coupe Convertible offers ECC, power windows, information centre, cruise control and high performance audio system as standard equipment and, across the C70 range, the new enhanced RTI navigation system and keyless drive are available as no cost options for the 2009 model year. Prices remain stable, with the range starting at £25,750 for the C70 2.4i S.
The new Powershift gearbox, introduced to the Volvo C30, S40 and V50 earlier this year, has now been launched in the C70 range. Available on the 2.0D engine only, it reaches 0-60mph in 10.5 seconds, features a combined mile-per-gallon of 44.8 and boasts a 167g/km CO2 figuree.
This new six-speed unit features twin wet clutches to provide the gear changing comfort of a fully-automatic transmission with the performance of a manual gearbox.
Enhancements to the Volvo XC70 premium estate include several new additions to the SE Lux specification, such as active bending lights, heated washer nozzles, load compensating suspension and chronograph instrument dials.
The Volvo XC70 also receives an updated RSE (rear seat entertainment system), which now features larger eight-inch flat-screen monitors built into the front seat headrests. A digital TV option is also available, which enables passengers to watch Freeview channels, as well as providing a cardslot that can be used for subscription services.
Other RSE features include an integrated DVD player, wireless headphones and remote control. An extra socket means it is possible to connect an additional DVD player or video game system, so the two screens can then be used independently. The RSE system is available for £1,350 and the additional digital TV option is £400.
For Volvo’s luxury saloon, the S80 with SE Lux variants now benefit from heated washer nozzles and chronograph instrument dials as standard. New 17-inch Cassini alloy wheels are now also available.
The S80 receives the upgraded RSE (rear seat entertainment system) and digital TV option and sees the introduction of the driver support pack and security pack.
Price adjustments include a decrease of £220 for the Volvo S80 3.2 Executive, which is now available for £39,985, and the range now starts at £23,495.
