Er waren al wat geruchten maar nu is het officieel:

Apple and Volvo Cars of North America Announce iPod Connectivity for Entire 2005 US Model Line
San Francisco, CA (January 13, 2005) - Apple and Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) announced two iPod connectivity options for Volvo's entire 2005 US model line, allowing iPod users to listen to their music collection through their Volvo audio system. The Volvo iPod Adapter will be available for S60, S80 and V70/XC70 models and will connect by simply plugging the iPod into a cable located in the car's glove compartment, while S40, V50 and XC90 owners can use a dashboard mounted FM transmitter. The Volvo iPod Adapter allows users to control their music through their Volvo sound system and steering wheel controls, and both options charge the iPod when plugged in.

"The year of the iPod and the automobile is off to a tremendous start with Volvo bringing iPod connectivity to their entire line," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing in the press release. "The unbeatable combination of iPod and iTunes is a perfect fit for Volvo customers."

"Our customers have been asking for an integrated iPod offering," said Vic Doolan, VCNA president and CEO in the press release. "We're delivering great iPod connectivity options for our entire line, coupled with unique content providing for the perfect Volvo music experience."

Additionally, Volvo is creating playlists on the iTunes Music Store to encourage customers to discover music from emerging Scandinavian artists. The Volvo playlists on the iTunes Music Store will include a wide variety of Scandinavian artists and genres, showcasing the creativity coming from Scandinavia. The Volvo playlists will feature unique download opportunities from artists such as Tina Dico, The Tiny, The Concretes and The Perishers.

Pricing and Availability
The Volvo iPod Adapter pricing will be announced at program launch in the second quarter of 2005 for all Volvo models. Installation is performed by authorized Volvo dealers only. The Volvo iPod Adapter works with all iPods with a dock connector. The iPod lineup is available in the US through the Apple Store, Apple's retail stores and Apple Authorized Resellers.

Sorry had ik nog nooit gedaan en had er ff zin in maar ik zal wel even een mailtje sturen naar Volvocars als nog niemand dat gedaan heeft

Ik ben er gisteren bij de dealer niet verder op ingegaan omdat ik te druk bezig was met de XC90 Ocean Race. Maar er kwam een nieuwe folder voorbij over multimedia en mp3 voor Volvo. Er komt dus wel iets op korte termijn.

Ik heb (nog) geen antwoord gekregen op mijn vraag of de iPod functie op korte termein leverbaar zal worden het Volvogamma.

Wel gehoord vandaag op de autorai dat je ongeveer €3500 euro meerprijs hebt op het Momentum package voor de Volvo Ocean Race.
Heb ook een folder gekregen over Volvo ocean race staat niet heel erg veel nieuws in alleen foto's (hij is echt wel mooi trouwens) en de veranderingen exterieur en interieur maar die zijn volgens mij al eerder genoemd op dit forum

Volvo Zweden is vandaag met het persbericht gekomen dat ze de Digital Jukebox gaan leveren voor de S60, V70 en S80. Het betreft een 20Gb kaart waarop 500 uur muziek oftewel 400 cd's kunnen worden gezet. Het systeem speelt o.a. de formaten MP3, WAV en WMA files en is compatible met windows 98SE, 2000, millenium en XP. Prijs is nog niet bekend.

Dat ding moet je toch niet midden op je dashboard plaatsen??? Waarom zo'n harde schijf een MP3 speler is toch veel praktischer ik wil gewoon mijn Mini iPod aan kunnen sluiten in de Auto!

Word dit systeem netjes ingebouwd of is het echt de bedoeling dat je dit ergens in het dashboad kastje legt of midden op he dashboard?????

Als je goed kijkt zie je dat de cradle gewoon voor bij de PC is en het apparaat dat er uit ziet als een versterker een sleuf heeft om die harddiks speler in te stoppen (voor inbouw in kofferbak of dashboard, who knows ?)

De nieuwe IPod aansluiting is o.a. niet leverbaar voor de XC90 modellen, volgens de dealer wellicht ergens medio 2007. Heeft iemand wel eens geprobeerd (hobbyisten !) om een Ipod in de XC90 te via de bestaande audio installatie aan te sluiten ?

Er is voor de Volvo's S40 en V50 een CD speler in ontwikkeling die
MP3-formats kan lezen. Wij verwachten de introductie hiervan begin
modeljaar 2007 (ca. medio 2006), alleen in combinatie met High
Performance en Premium Sound en deze toepassing zal uitsluitend vanaf
modeljaar 2007 kunnen worden toegepast en helaas niet met terugwerkende
kracht op voorgaande modeljaren. Vanaf week 20/2006 zal vanaf High
Performance S40/V50 een AUX-input beschikbaar zijn. Wij realiseren ons
dat we huidige S40/V50 rijders op dit moment niet tegemoet kunnen komen
in uw wens om MP3 af te spelen in de auto. Wij zullen dan ook niet
aflatend druk uitoefenen op de fabriek om ook voor de huidige berijders
met een oplossing te komen. Of en wanneer dit zal leiden tot de
introductie van een MP3-speler die aan deze wensen tegemoet komt is op
dit moment niet aan te geven. Wij betreuren het u niet anders te kunnen
berichten.
